Healer Song Story Possibly a Fraud? Michael Guglielmucci Lied About Cancer?
posted August 20, 2008 by jordan
Brent just came in and showed me this article claiming that Guglielmucci story behind the song was a fraud.
Shocking to some, yes . . . sad that sin is so pervasive that nothing surprises me anymore. In our search to create ever deeper experiences, sometimes people get sucked into a lie thinking that anything that justifies the experience is okay. And worshipers so desperate for another mountaintop experience follow guys like Todd Bentley. There are days I am grateful that God designed me a little more “head-wired” than “heart-wired.” I don’t mean that faith is all mental with no heart, but I tend to live more out of a “biblical rationality” (ala the Puritans and Westminster Confession) than the buzz of current experience, though I do have experiences with God. Sometimes I hear of other’s ever present mountaintop or mystical experiences and get a bit jealous God didn’t wire me differently. Then day’s like this, I don’t. Steady, obedient and even keel, even if it is a bit less glamorous…
As to the song itself, one thing is always true. We ALL get healed in the Resurrection….PERIOD!!!

Wow, that’s unbelievable. I’m glad to see his “credentials” were pulled. I hope the presbytery gets in on this…. oh, sorry.

Yeah - what a trainwreck. How do we honour those who are truly talented, gifted, “anointed” by God while still being wary of this kind of story? We need wisdom and discernment so much right now.

thanks for stopping by my site.
I loved your post. i’m the same way (more even keel), and i feel the same way sometimes.

I think we need to be equally head and heart wired. The experiences are not the issue, is not thinking whatsoever. Would you not say balance or “both and” rather than leaning too much either way. Reference 1Corinthians 14:15.

Jordan,
Thanks for commenting on my blog - I hit you back kinda hard. But I love you, bro.
Hope you’ll pardon the scattered thoughts and some copy/paste commenting … I’m trying to comment on some of these blogs that have linked back to my own. Much has transpired today, I’ve spent a good bit of time in prayer and worship, thinking of this situation.
Overall, it’s disappointing. By the end of the day, I start wondering if Mike wasn’t delusional at this point - I mean, I’ve watched that video over and over the past months. Even knowing the hoax, I still watch it and identify so strongly. I typically have a high level of discernment, yet I watch and it seems so authentic. Maybe he really was believing this lie, or part of him.
The song - I still love it, though it’s somewhat tainted with this tragic revelation. But, God wasn’t surprised. Maybe He knew … Maybe He knew that we, the Church, needed this song. Maybe THAT’s WHY his favor seemed to rest on that song so strongly. Maybe it’s a reminder that God can (and will) use any vessel to communicate … even the weak, or people and ways that confound the wise and religious.
Many, many questions. I’m sad, disappointed, but in the end …. I BELIEVE YOU’RE MY HEALER. I BELIEVE YOU ARE ALL I NEED. AMEN.
For the Kingdom,
Fred McKinnon

Yes the man may have lied but that doesn’t deny the power of the song……
People rose up in faith and declared that God is their healer…. people were moved by that and the fact is that God cannot help but show up when people declare and believe His Word

how could one fake his wife, his parents and his parent for 2 years? Surely pentecostals are meant to be discerning.

“The authenticity of worship resides not in the composer of a song, but rather in the heart of the singer.”
Despite the situation, the song is still true. God is still a healer and He is all we need. Even though Mike may not have had cancer, it is obvious that he has some issues and is in need of God’s healing.

thanks for your comments guys, this is truly a shock but makes me realise that sometimes we worship the circumstances behind the song rather than just worshipping the true living God who we can trust… I think “Healer” was powerful because of the story behind it…. I don’t think I could bare to listen to it right now. Your right we need more discernment.

Rich, I agree to a degree. But experiential only Christianity is the problem. People are coming out of these revivals saying they “met God”, “got free,” when what they got was only an emotional buzz proven by the fact that many of them have not realized the true gospel of Christ crucified, buried and resurrected in exit polls done. Without that realization as primary and foundational, they have not truly met God regardless of their emotional state or even changed behavior or disease.

the scripture says to test the spirits for this very reason not throw all of it out. I have witnessed verifiable life change and healings and emotionalism. The fact is God is capable but does not always do what we want when we pull a lever

Yes Rich, as one of my friends often says,
God ain’t nobody’s monkey.

God does heal. His word is true. Grace Always Wins.

You hold my every moment, you calm my raging seas, walk with me through fire and heal all my disease….Dude this is a strong song…
God truly can use anything to get His message across, even a fallen and mislead brother…..
A great song….. for me its taken nothing away from the message….how many people have we come across in our walk that have twisted God’s word to fit what they wanted to say and not what God was trying to tell us…..His Word is still true is it not?
Awesome song…..
